This mug radiates the vital force of Mr. Toru Hatta's world and artistic process. It is the spiritual ceramic canvas capturing gifts offered by his natural surrounding. A force of nature's presence on your table.
The surface bears his signature glaze Shirokake 白掛, translating literally to white hanging or draping.
With a clean, unassuming profile yet gently expressive surface, the mug belongs to the everyday table. The handle and its negative space make countering the cup weight easy on the hand.
Mr. Hatta wants people to be in our landscape's presence when they use, wash and care for tableware. That intent is encapsulated in cracks, hand marks, mineral spots across this mug. Translucency, milky opaqueness, and subtle green ash spot co-exist. It's incredible such fragile seeming decorations is what keeps the iron-rich clay from disintegrating in the kiln.
He has evolved the Korean buncheong and Japanese kohiki techniques into his very own, dressing his works in expressive white slip over a stone and iron-rich black clay body. Fired in Anagama and Gas kilns multiple times, wild clay, slip and glaze condense until textural grains finally manifest themselves, as if bursting from earth.

Slight visual and dimensional variations: That said, there can be slight measurement errors (up to 0.5cm) and colour differences due to photographic equipment, lighting and differing monitor displays.

Imperfections left behind by the artist's signature making techniques are inherent values to the products in this store.

- Glaze cracks, many of which intentionally let stains seep in over time
- Stones or mineral crystals bursting through uneven surfaces
- Slight body cracks, usually covered by glaze so are food-safe
- Chips off the body or glaze which do not affect functionality or food safety, and are noted in applicable product listing
- Mending, always photographed and noted in applicable product listing
