Onda Yoko's ceramics are characterised by distinctive glaze hues and a metallic texture. Her colour combinations were chosen so users can enjoy various schemes on the table. She shapes her vessels so both the colour and texture can coexist on the surface.
Onda blends around 10 different raw materials to create metallic effects, crystalline patterns, and a small palette of signature colours: Teal, Ultramarine Blue, and Bronze. She carefully crafts the glaze to create desired variations in colour and shade, sometimes testing hundreds of glaze formulations. Electric-kiln firing means she can finely control how temperature interacts with the glaze.
After graduating college she started a career working in planning, design, raw material procurement and glaze development for a Mino-yaki pottery studio. During this time, she would often imagine what colour combinations she herself would prefer.
