His signatures include Kiseto, Iga Turquoise Blue, and Hakeme glaze surfaces. The Iga Turquoise Blue series of work was developed through trial and error during the COVID-19 pandemic, when sales outlets for his ceramics closed and he came upon a period of time for new creations.
Shinichi's blue is not one shade of blue; its rather like gazing into the cup as an iris. There can be hues of brown, black, deep blue, light blue, and sometimes even red. The glaze flows into a pool at the bottom of the vessels, the deep blue reminiscent of sea, sky, lakes. People see Lake Biwa and Okinawa's blues in his creations.
Unusually, the pieces are first applied with ash glaze on unfired greenware, then coated with blue. Each are fired multiple times in electric kiln to reign in the igneous Iga clay. Even though he is the sole developer for this beautiful surface, firing this blue still presents mysterious challenges. His work therefore becomes an inimitable strand of Iga Ware.
